Hash tags for books – the new ISBN?
Ian Greenleigh had a brilliant idea – which has been quickly taken up by the twitter-verse – and deserves wider recognition. You can read his blog post here, but the basic idea is that each book gets allocated an official hashtag, which can create a virtual book club online for readers of that title.
If you’re new to twitter, hashtag may not mean much (and if you’re an Apple Mac user – you’ll need to press alt + 3 to even get one to appear). # is a means of grouping twitter conversations. If you want your tweet to link up with others on the same subject, you include a #topic in it. The top ten subjects are said to be ‘trending’ and give an idea of what’s being discussed out there.
