What genre is your writing? And does it matter?
I’ve written a guest blog at the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook site on the recent furore surrounding the Wall Street Journal article on Young Adult fiction.
Genre is always a tricky area. Publishers claim to be looking for new genres, and cross-genre writing, but the industry from marketing departments right across to the bookseller is geared up to work with clearly defined categories. As you write, have a think about how your potential audience might shape your writing, and who you are aiming your work at.
